What we collect

We collect only what is necessary to operate the service.

• Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a hashed password. This is stored in Supabase, our authentication provider.
• Manuscript metadata. We store manuscript titles, word counts, chapter counts, and last-updated timestamps in our database. We do not store the content of your manuscripts.
• Subscription and billing data. We store your subscription plan (Free, Pro, or Decade), subscription status, and subscription dates.
• Affiliate data. If you participate in the affiliate program, we store your referral code, the accounts attributed to your referrals, and commission amounts owed and paid.
• Usage data. We collect basic, anonymized usage analytics to understand which features are used and where the product can be improved. We do not use third-party advertising trackers.

How manuscripts are stored

Bindery is designed to keep your writing private by default. All manuscript content (chapters, notes, character sheets, and outlines) is stored in your browser's local storage and IndexedDB. This data lives on your device and is not synced to or accessible from our servers.

If you clear your browser data or switch devices, your manuscripts will not transfer automatically. We recommend exporting your work regularly using the export feature (EPUB, PDF, or DOCX).

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to do the following.

• Authenticate your account and keep your session active
• Display your manuscript list and metadata across devices
• Improve the product based on anonymized usage patterns
• Send transactional emails (account confirmation, password reset)

We do not sell your data. We do not share your data with third parties for marketing purposes.

Third-party services

Bindery relies on a small number of third-party services to operate.

• Supabase. Handles authentication and stores account and metadata. Supabase's privacy policy is available at supabase.com/privacy.
• Cloudflare. Serves the marketing website and handles DNS. Cloudflare may log anonymized request data per its standard terms.
• Resend. Delivers transactional emails. Resend processes only the email address and message content needed to deliver the email.

Cookies and local storage

Bindery uses localStorage to remember your theme preference and session state. We do not use third-party cookies. We do not use advertising cookies.

Your rights

You may request deletion of your account and associated metadata at any time by emailing hello@thebindery.xyz. Because manuscript content is stored locally on your device, deleting your account removes your metadata but does not affect local browser storage - you can clear that through your browser's settings.

If you are in the EU or UK, you have the right to access, correct, or delete the personal data we hold about you. Contact us at the address below to exercise these rights.

Children

Bindery is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the product evolves. When we make material changes, we will update the date at the top of this page. Continued use of Bindery after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
